2014 honda cr-v review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Compact crossover is a family favorite. introductionthe honda cr-v is indeed a comfortable runabout vehicle, as some say its acronym suggests. Cr-v first appeared as a 1997 model.  the honda cr-v comes loaded with technology, including bluetooth-enabled hands-free phone capability and streaming audio. The rearview camera is a multi-angle system that lets the driver choose between a top view and either a 130-degree or a 180-degree view. Automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated front seats and a premium, 328-watt audio system with subwoofer and xm satellite radio are available. Optional on the top-of-the-line model is a gps-based navigation system with turn-by-turn directions.  cr-v's 2. 4-liter engine delivers 185 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is mid-pack for the class, with an epa-estimated 23/31 mpg city/highway on front-wheel drive models, and 22/30 mpg with all-wheel drive (which honda calls real time awd). An eco-assist feature intended to save fuel adjusts transmission shift points and manages acceleration. When a little more oomph is desired, eco-assist can be switched off.  convenience features include hill-start assist, which applies the brakes when the car is stopped on an incline and releases them when the driver touches the accelerator. The clutch that sends power to the rear wheels on the awd models has a pre-load function that prevents any initial slippage when moving off from a stop.  we found handling responsive and a ride that's solid without being overly firm. The honda cr-v is stable, with little body lean in corners, even at elevated speeds.  inside, pleasantly styled panels and trim pieces complement each other and show a consistent theme. Hard plastic surfaces are everywhere, however. Controls are functional and for the most part intuitive. The screen on the optional navigation system is large and easy to read, though the system takes a long time to start up. The honda cr-v's low roofline reduces headroom. The rear cargo compartment is not perfectly flat with the rear seats folded.  safety features include electronic stability control, brake assist, side-curtain airbags with rollover sensing, and front-side airbags. The multi-angle rearview camera displays its image on the intelligent multi-information display, or on the navigation system's screen (if so equipped). The 2013 honda cr-v earned a 5-star overall crash-test score from the national highway traffic safety administration, as well as a top safety pick designation from the insurance institute for highway safety.  alternatives to the 2014 honda cr-v include other small crossovers such as the chevrolet equinox, the recently redesigned ford escape, the hyundai santa fe sport or tucson, the sporty mazda cx-5, and the toyota rav4. Toyota entered the compact crossover suv segment even earlier than honda, with the 1996 rav4. Cr-v ex-l is the only trim level available with a factory-installed voice-recognition navigation system with turn-by-turn directions in 2wd 29,195) and awd 30,445) variants. Alternatively, a rear-seat dvd entertainment system can be installed in both front-drive 28,395) and all-wheel drive 29,645) ex-l models.  safety equipment includes frontal airbags, front seat side-impact airbags, full coverage side curtain airbags, electronic stability control, abs, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, and multi-angle rearview camera. Optional all-wheel drive can improve handling stability in slippery conditions. walkaroundhonda cr-v retains styling cues from older generations, after an evolutionary redesign for 2012 that brought marginal adjustments to dimensions.  the front view is sleek and round, with a rakish shape to the headlights and a grille with three horizontal bars. The lower valance is pronounced, and includes fog lights. Hood sculpting is convex, and the fender blisters are bold, giving the cr-v a strong stance.  from the side, the sculpting across door lowers is recessed, with a slight coke bottle-ness. Wheel arches are full and sharply defined. The rearmost side window pinches down to a tapered trailing edge, accenting the rear taillight and backup cluster that wraps around into the rear quarter, somewhat breaking up the sheet metal in the c-pillar (the post between the roof and lower body behind the rearmost side window). Oval recesses behind the door handles easily accommodate large or gloved hands.  in the rear, proportions are right, with the rear window fully integrated into the liftgate's lower half. A thin strip of brightwork tops the license plate recess, which itself snugs into the upper half of a scalloped recess spanning the liftgate from one fender to the other. The vertical taillights each look to be a single piece, and include the backup and running lights. Tires properly positioned relative to the rear fenders match the front end's solid stance. The matte-finished lower valance masks all but the beefiest of the rear suspension underpinnings. interiorat first blush, the honda cr-v interior comes across as elegant. Nearly all surfaces are hard plastic. They are visually pleasing, with upscale-looking graining and metallic-like finishes, but the feel is clearly low-budget.  seats are comfortable, with adequate, if not remarkable, thigh support. The leather is a little short of luxurious, but comparable to that of other vehicles in this class and price range. Door armrests are padded. Door-mounted map pockets are molded to hold a beverage can or water bottle, but aren't especially deep, so cups must be fitted with sipper caps.  the lower roofline of the cr-v means less headroom than the toyota rav4, hyundai tucson, ford escape or chevrolet equinox. Legroom is more plentiful in the honda than these others, however, except for the equinox, which bests the cr-v by about an inch.  the center console extends forward all the way under the pod holding the shift lever, creating usable storage space in the form of a long, deep covered storage bin, which can conceal a medium-sized handbag or other valuables. Small trays are tucked into each side of the lower part of that extended console. The lower portion of the dashboard curves outward from the shift lever pod in graceful arcs toward the doors, which themselves repeat the arc cues.  the screen that serves either as the control panel for the audio or the nav display parks front and center in the upper dash, directly below a deeply recessed, smaller screen that handles the duties of the onboard computer and the rearview camera on the ex-l with the nav system. The rearview camera is a multi-angle unit that lets users choose between a top view, a 130-degree, or a 180-degree view. All have superimposed guidelines to aid the driver when backing up, although they are fixed and don't bend to indicate track at the current steering wheel angle as they do on some systems.  on each side of the large circular speedometer that dominates the instrument cluster is a thin light strip that glows green to signal when the engine is optimizing fuel economy. It's attractive, and looks like a giant parentheses around the speedometer. Mostly intuitive knobs, buttons and rocker switches on the dash and steering wheel manage audio and climate control functions. The backs of the rear seats are also beveled on the outboard edges, so the shoulder straps on the seatbelts naturally slip around the seatbacks when they're raised from their folded positions. Honda also managed to give the rear seats true, one-step fold-down systems, activated by pulling either a lever on the s.

2010 chevrolet malibu review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Fitting in the lineup just below the larger impala, the malibu competes with the toyota camry, honda accord, nissan altima, and ford fusion. Malibu blends a smooth ride with responsive handling, a quiet interior, effective crash performance and noteworthy build quality. It strikes a nice balance between well-controlled handling and an even ride. Overall, the new malibu feels smooth and is pleasant to drive.  the cabin is nicely designed, attractive, and everything is easy to operate, though there are some hard plastics that detract from an otherwise first-rate interior. Choosing among them largely comes down to nitpicking, splitting hairs and personal preferences. The camry and accord may have an edge on resale value, but they're also likely to come with higher price tags. In any case, we don't see the gap between this chevrolet and the imports that we used to see. Malibu, camry and accord are all superb midsize sedans.  for 2010, the changes are relatively few. The six-speed automatic is standard with the 1lt trim level, 17-inch chrome tech alloy wheels are standard with the 2lt, and driver's-side power-adjustable lumbar support replaces manual adjustment on all models. Finally, there are some new colors. The base model also comes with electric power steering, to save drag on the engine, while the v6-powered models come with hydraulic power steering. The malibu makes good use of its space, and also has an attractive wheels-at-the-corners look that is substantial, yet clean and crisp.  the body design is bold, long and sleek, with an especially appealing roofline that looks like it belongs on a luxury car. The bodysides are completely clean and uncluttered, and the twin round taillamps pay homage to the corvette. The dual-port grille is a contemporary chevrolet design cue, which gives the malibu a distinctive look, and distinction is an important goal of the midsize sedan designer. Everything is within arm's reach and easy to operate. This design is brought into the 21st century with wood and metallic trim and a very pleasing blue-on-white instrumentation graphic treatment that's flooded with blue light at night.  less noticeable are thoughtful features such as ambient lighting. A feature associated with expensive luxury cars, and recently popularized by mercedes and bmw, ambient lighting helps the driver and front passenger find secondary controls and items around the center console. A cubby on top of the dash is convenient for smaller items and is a very useful feature.  cloth, faux-suede and leather interior options are available. The standard interiors are monotone, but several two-tone interior combinations are available, including a dramatic black-and-saddle leather combination that's very attractive.  we found the leather seats in the ltz quite comfortable. Piping in a contrasting tone dresses them up. The front bucket seats are somewhere between sumptuous and luscious in the way they look and the way they sit, and are very comfortable and supportive.  the long wheelbase affords each occupant plenty of room, and there is ample headroom and legroom in the rear compartment for six-foot-plus passengers. The backs of the front seats are dished out to add knee room. The rear seatbacks flip down to provide a pass-through to the trunk.  while the trunk has 15. 1 cubic feet of cargo volume, the stylish rear pillars are pushed to the far back of the car, creating a small trunk opening that won't accept large boxes.  the cabin includes a dashtop storage bin, door cubbies, and seatback pockets, plus standard ambient lighting for the overhead console and door-pull pockets. We've never cared for roll-up sliding covers on center consoles due to their ability to attract crumbs, dust and debris.  overall, the malibu interior is attractive and comfortable. The quality of the interior materials is good. We think the malibu's interior compares well to the cabin of the honda accord. In fact, it may be more attractive, though the material on the steering wheel hub and the hard plastic on the lower dash aren't as nice. However, the malibu has an attractive leather shift boot when the leather upholstery is chosen, and the accord can't make that claim.  every malibu comes with xm satellite radio and the latest version of onstar with turn-by-turn navigation. However, there's no gps navigation system, nor is there a back-up camera. Chevrolet says many people prefer to use their portable gps units and relatively few want to pay for an oem navigation system. We've heard that view from respectable drivers, but we prefer in-dash units.  big knobs and buttons and an elegant design make operating the audio and climate functions easy. In fact, we found it easier and less confusing to make adjustments in the malibu than in a comparably equipped (without navigation) honda accord; the honda seemed less intuitive and convenient. Unlike the accord, the malibu has the audio controls at the top, which is better because people tend to fiddle with the stereos more than the temperature controls.  remote starting is available. This lets the driver start the car by pressing a button on the key fob from the comfort of the house on wintry mornings, allowing the car to warm up while the driver sits inside sipping coffee. The thoroughly modern v6 has 252 horsepower and delivers performance that is good, if not sparkling, and is certainly as much as most families will ever need. There is certainly no shortage of power or performance.  with the v6, the six-speed automatic is quick to shift, up and down, smooth, lurch-free and quiet. The engine, which has nine different sound attenuators in the air intake system, sounds powerful and smooth.  in fact, everything about the v6 is quiet and smooth. The suspension soaked up rough mississippi farm roads with grace and competence, and kept the car straight and flat without a lot of pitch.

The chevrolet sonic combines a fuel efficient engine, seating for five and ample cargo space; it competes in the sub-compact market. The front-wheel drive sonic is offered in two body styles; sedan and hatchback. All models come standard with a 138-hp 1. 8-liter engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. 2007 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth ride, sharp handling, serious capability. introductionthe ford f-150 comes in a broad range of models, yet they all seem to have nicely balanced suspensions that make them enjoyable to drive and well-designed, comfortable cabs.  they offer a quiet and refined ride over dirt roads, rough pavement and freeway slabs. Yet they also offer controlled handling, with a minimum of body roll in corners. The steering is responsive for cornering and these trucks track like a laser beam on the highway. Brakes are smooth and responsive. The big 5. 4-liter v8 is smooth and quiet, and delivers quick acceleration. It's rated at 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque and 15/19 mpg city/highway. The 4. 6-liter v8 and 4. 2-liter v6 engines perform well, also.  the f-150 comes in six distinct variants to meet the different needs of a wide range of owners. Within those variants are three cab choices, three bed lengths, three bed styles, and a choice of powertrains. Ford claims more than 60 possible variations. The f-150 is known for its toughness, strength, and cargo capacity, while offering interior design and comfort. Its amenities show attention to detail.  the base xl is surprisingly nice inside. The fx4's optional captain's chairs are comfortable. The lariat is classy and nicely equipped, with every known amenity. The king ranch has a western feel that's very inviting. The supercrew features a back seat that's roomy and comfortable for adults. Since then, the model lineup has expanded with new trim levels, variations, and specialty models. The 2007 models feature more than a dozen subtle improvements inside and out. Among them:  seat comfort has been enhanced for 2007. A tire-pressure monitoring system now comes standard. Lariat and xlt models get new grilles for 2007. A 5. 4-liter e85 flexible fuel v8 is available, and power for the 4. 6-liter v8 is increased for 2007. A new dvd navigation system and sirius satellite radio are available, and an auxiliary audio input jack is now standard on most models. Power folding mirrors are now available on 2007 fx4 and lariat models, a useful feature for parking in tight quarters.  towing and hauling capacities have been increased for 2007, and ford claims the f-150 is the most capable truck in its class. Properly equipped, a 2007 ford f-150 can tow 10,500 pounds or haul more than 3,050 pounds in the bed. lineupthe 2007 ford f-150 is available in six distinct trim levels: xl, stx, xlt, fx2/fx4, lariat, and king ranch. Each boasts its own interior style and features. Engines, suspensions and cab configurations are designed to meet specific needs.  engines include a 4. 2-liter v6, a 4. 6-liter v8, and a 5. 4-liter v8. The 4. 6-liter v8 comes standard in the popular models. The flexible fuel version of the 5. 4-liter v8 can run on e85 ethanol.  the xl 18,220) is the budget-priced f-150 with a work-truck interior: vinyl-covered 40/20/40 bench seats with manually adjustable lumbar support for the driver, black vinyl floor covering, and an all-plastic dashboard housing a basic am/fm radio. A tire-pressure monitor comes standard for 2007. Xl is readily identifiable by its black grille and fascia, painted silver bumpers and 17-inch steel wheels. Regular cab and supercab (extended cab) styles are available, and the latter comes with air conditioning. Popular models include the f-150 xl regular cab 2wd short wheelbase model with a 4. 6-liter v8 and automatic 20,635) and the v6 and manual gearbox 18,790); a supercab long-wheelbase 4wd with a v8 and automatic is also available 27,275). Chrome bumpers and cloth seats are optional.  the stx 22,765) is sportier than the xl, with body-color bumpers and body-color trim for its black grille, and 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Cloth seats, air conditioning, and a cd player with an auxiliary audio input jack come standard. Stx comes in styleside and flareside body styles, in regular cab or supercab, with either a 6. 5-foot or a 5. 5-foot cargo box. An audiophile sound system with subwoofer and six-disc cd changer is optional.  the xlt 25,065) is the most popular model, nicer and better-equipped than xl or stx. It comes with chrome bumpers and a chrome-trimmed black honeycomb grille that set it apart from the other models. Carpeting is standard, as is premium cloth upholstery on the standard bench seats or optional captain's chairs. The xlt instrument panel gets more flash than either the xl or stx dash; and power windows, mirrors and locks with remote keyless entry are standard. The xlt features an overhead rail console system that the owner can tailor to his or her needs. Fog lamps come standard on 4wd xlts.  the fx4 30,515) is a special off-road model. The interior features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a floor shifter, chrome accents, and black rubber off-road floor mats; while the exterior is distinguished by a unique bar-style grille, wheel-lip moldings highlighting 18-inch cast aluminum wheels, and body-color or dark shadow gray bumpers, depending on paint choice. Fx4 is available in regular cab, supercab, and supercrew body styles, but the long (8-foot) bed is not available. The standard engine is the 5. 4-liter v8. The fx4 has its own instrument package with carbon mesh accents on the metallic dashboard. Captain's chairs in cloth or leather are optional, and the standard bench seat adds manually adjustable lumbar support for the passenger. Among the models is the f-150 fx4 supercrew 4wd 35,495).  the new fx2 is a 2wd model that comes in supercab 28,570) or super crew 30,970) versions with a styleside box. It includes a dark accent billet-style grille insert with body color grille surround, unique 18-inch aluminum wheels, available 20-inch aluminum wheels, a chrome exhaust tip, fog lamps, unique captain's chairs with center console and floor-mounted shifter, and a body color front bumper, rear bumper, door and tailgate handles.  the lariat is the luxury model, di. walkaroundin the late 1990s, f-150 went aerodynamically curvy, and although it remained number one in sales, not everyone liked the look. So for 2004, ford returned the f-150 to its square-shouldered roots, with a more utilitarian look that continues essentially unchanged for 2007.  it's a functional look, but in its own way it's at least as stylish as the much-heralded dodge ram. In fact, the f-150 has a unique image, no small feat when designing within the hard parameters imposed by a pickup. It's at once crisp, bold, and sturdy.  in short, we think the f-150 is a great-looking truck.  the f-150 shares styling cues with ford's handsome super duty pickups, including the sharp downward drop in the forward part of the door windows, allowing a clear view of the massive outside mirrors. A high beltline gives the truck visual strength and makes occupants feel more secure.  the nose is square in concept, with a large, bold, big-rig grille opening. Yet the front fascia wraps around to the fenders for a precise, sophisticated appearance. The bodyside and cargo box sheet metal is chiseled, though it looks slab-sided at the same time, a theme that carries through to the tailgate. F-150 is both upscale and utilitarian, a look that's very appealing.  the different trim levels are quite distinctive. Just one example: xlt and lariat have a honeycomb grille (black on xlt, arizona beige on lariat), while xl, stx, fx4, and king ranch wear bar-style grilles.  practical considerations are a big part of the design, and some of this can be easily seen. Every bed, no matter which length or style, is more than 22 inches deep, for a generous margin when hauling larger cargoes. The basic xl is surprisingly nice. At the other end of the spectrum is the king ranch, which has a western feel that's very inviting. We love the king ranch, but it's not for everyone.  in recent years we've found the f-150's front bench seats flat and unsupportive. The seats have been improved for 2007 models, however, and ford says they provide more support and comfort. The front bench is still split three ways: the center section flips down to reveal a console with storage and cup holders. The big difference in the back seats between supercrew and supercab models is rear legroom: 39. 0 inches for supercrew, 32. 7 inches for supercab. 2011 ford escape review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The ford escape is a mid-size sport-utility vehicle with credentials that make it equally suited to urban commutes or weekend off-road outings. The xlt and limited trims feature the same 2. 5-liter engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. A 240-hp 3. 0-liter v6 is an available upgrade on limited models. Standard safety features include front airbags, front seat mounted side airbags and side-curtain airbags for front and rear passengers. The escape carries-on for 2011 with minimal changes.

2007 jeep wrangler review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It's an anachronism, and should probably be a dinosaur, but no, it's still popular because it fills a need like no other vehicle. Despite its inherent design limitations (we won't call them flaws), primarily balance and storage, the wrangler delivers inimitable fun. Challengers have not been able to steal from the allure of the jeep. The dynasty lives on.  jeep engineers have kept the momentum rolling by making timely improvements. It's a perfect fit for the times. It doesn't change or pervert the character of wrangler at all, it just makes the vehicle more attainable, and more desirable for many. It's much more comfortable and convenient, and holds way more stuff, including happy passengers.  maybe best of all, a lot more content has been added, especially in the areas of comfort, safety and convenience; and there has been an average price reduction of $1200 down the line.  each of the six models of the wrangler uses the same new engine, a 3. 8-liter v6 making 12 more horsepower than the previous trusty inline-6 that's been around for more than 20 years. It has the same peak torque but at a higher range, and that detracts some from the wrangler's uphill performance; but gas mileage is about the same, at 16 city and 19 highway for the 4x4. There are also a dana 44 rear axle, trak-lok anti-spin differential, 16- or 17-inch aluminum wheels, electronic front sway bar disconnect, trailer tow group, tow hooks, engine block heater, and locking fuel filler cap.  the sahara 19,345) is the premium model in the lineup, and adds the sunrider top, the electronic stability program, electronic roll mitigation, 17-inch aluminum wheels with goodyear wrangler tires, body-colored fender flares, tubular side steps, heavy-duty suspension, tinted windows, cruise control, foglamps, tow hooks, and the infinity sound system. To the sahara, it adds the disconnecting front sway bar, rock-trac part-time transfer case with 4:1 low range, dana 44 front and rear axles, tru-lok locking front and rear differential, 4. 10 axle ratio, rock rails, and 32-inch b. The sahara models offer electronic stability and electronic roll mitigation. Seat-mounted front side air bags are optional with some models. walkaroundnaturally, the new wrangler looks just like a jeep; the redesign for 2007 didn't mess with the classic round headlamps, seven-slot grille or upright fold-down windshield, although the windshield is slightly curved, for the first time on a jeep, for better aerodynamics and reduced wind noise. Only a jeep aficionado will be able to tell the all-new '07 wrangler from the '06, but there are ways.  identifying a new wrangler unlimited is easy: just count the doors.  although the wheelbase of the '07 wrangler has been stretched by 2 inches, the vehicle is 2. 6 inches shorter overall, thanks to reduced overhangs and new bumpers. And it's 5. 5 inches wider, with a 3. 4-inch wider track. Jeep says it's 'dramatically brawnier,' but we'd say that's a dramatic statement. The sheetmetal is new, with a slight crown. The halogen headlamps are brighter, and the new front bumper has integrated fog lamps near its center. For the first time, there are step assists under the doors to make climbing up into the jeep easier, and the tail lamps are new. The fender flares are bolted on, so they can be easily taken off and replaced with cooler aftermarket flares. The bumpers, step assists and fender flares are all sturdy, flat-black plastic on the x.  the standard soft top is improved for easier removal and installation. The sunrider soft top slides back half way, like a huge sunroof over the front seats. The new optional three-piece modular hardtop (freedom top) has two front panels that easily pop on and off like a t-top, and are stored behind the rear seat. The third panel over the rear seat can be removed separately and stored in the garage. The freedom top yields a total of six open-air possibilities.  under the body, there's a new boxed frame that's 100 percent stiffer in bending and 50 percent stiffer in twisting, with seven cross members. This helps in crash results, and enabled a new suspension: steering geometry, shock absorbers, springs and control arms are all different. Wide spaced frame rails cradle the fuel tank between the wheels. Three skid plates protect the fuel tank, transfer case and automatic transmission oil pan. interiorthe 2007 jeep wrangler two-door is a lot roomier inside than pre-2007 models, thanks to its increased width. The comfortable new high-back front seats, using a handsome stain-resistant gray or khaki-colored fabric in the sahara and rubicon, offer 5. 1 inches more shoulder room and 4. 6 inches more hip room. The removable rear seat provides 3. 9 inches more shoulder room, 1. 6 inches more hip room and 1 inch more leg room for each of the two passengers. There's also 2 more inches behind the rear seat, which now folds to provide nearly twice the cargo capacity as before.  the cabin is 20 percent quieter, thanks to better isolation from new body mounts, extensive use of something called pcl (polymer constraint layer), and new seals at the doors, along the a-pillar, and at the top of the windshield.  as for the larger unlimited, jeep claims that its 86. 7 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seat folded flat (the headrests flip back, so they don't need to be removed) is more than the toyota fj cruiser, hummer h3 or nissan xterra. That huge difference is because in the regular wrangler, the rear passengers sit directly over the axle and between the wheel wells; in the unlimited, the axle is located behind them. The instruments, including the optional compass and temperature gauges, are easy to read, and the controls are soothingly simple. The solid square buttons look good and are easy to understand and operate. Seven speakers, including subwoofer, is a whole lot of speakers for the cabin of a jeep, and we think this is a good thing. The locking glove box is about one-third larger than before, and there's a convenient grab handle above it. The ford escape is a mid-size sport-utility vehicle with credentials that make it equally suited to urban commutes or weekend off-road outings. The xlt and limited trims feature the same 2. 5-liter engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. A 240-hp 3. 0-liter e85 capable v6 is an available upgrade on xlt and limited models. Standard safety features include front airbags, front seat mounted side airbags and side-curtain airbags for front and rear passengers. For 2012, the escape receives one new exterior color.
